Press shots have been leaked of an upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango device created by HTC, codenamed Omega. This device will probably be announced at HTC’s September event. The Omega is pretty slick looking with its white and silver color combination and a possible aluminum build. This device may be called the HTC Radar when it is officially announced.

The technical specifications for this bad boy are unfortunately only rumours at this point: a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 SoC processor, 512MB of RAM, a front-facing camera, a 3.8″ SLCD display and a 8MP camera in the rear. The front-facing camera will likely include Skype integration.

Nokia have introduced two basic entry-level mobile phone devices, called the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 respectively. Both of these devices are using the Series 30 platform as their operating system. Generally-speaking, the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 have similar features, except for the extra features of the Nokia 101 which has dual SIM support and a MP3 player on it. Interestingly, the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 has a longer battery lifetime, lasting up to 25 days.

In addition, both devices also offers a built-FM radio, and the Nokia 101 has memory card support of up to 16GB on it. Both of these devices will go on sale in selected markets soon, with a price of less than USD $50 each.

Sprint today announced a software upgrade for the Mogul, a Windows Mobile device packed with advanced wireless capabilities. The device comes with the new EV-DO Rev, a technology which supports faster data rates and higher system capacity letting users send and receive data at broadband speeds (comparable to basic DSL). Average download speeds will increase from 400-700 Kbps to 600 Kbps-1.4 Mbps and average upload speeds will increase from 50-70 Kbps to 350-500 Kbps.

Besides increased data speeds, the free software download also provides advanced GPS functionality allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation. Sprint Navigation provides audio and visual turn-by-turn directions, more than 10 million local listings, and one-click traffic rerouting on compatible phones, similar to an in-vehicle GPS system. The Mogul replicates the familiar Windows PC-based experience and by using the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition to deliver benefits including increased security and added support for HTML email and Microsoft Office Mobile.

Nokia has announced in their April 6th press release that their latest model from the E-series, the Nokia E75, is now shipping to all stores around the world. This new phone model from Nokia is aimed at those who are looking for business smartphones. The E75 has a 2.4 inch screen with 320 x 240 pixel resolutions and a slide out QWERTY keyboard for texts and emails.

Nokia’s plans for the E75 include web browsing, WiFi, GPRS and HSDPA, which will help you obtain a decent internet connection. No, this is not a science fiction dream. The technology that allows you pay for products just by waving your cellphone over a reader does exist. People in Japan and South Korea have been using it for the last several years to pay for everything from train tickets to groceries to candy in vending machines, simply by waving their phones over a contactless reader. It is currently undergoing small-scale trials around the world, including in Atlanta, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area and from the feedback received, nearly everyone has liked using this form of payment.

However, most consumers in the United States will not be able to wave and pay with their cellphones anytime soon, the reason being that the number of companies which must work together to give the technology to the masses have yet to agree on how to split the resulting revenue. In Japan, this was not a problem because a single carrier, NTT DoCoMo, accounted for more than half the Japanese market at the time the system was rolled out and thus had significant leverage with financial institutions and handset manufacturers.

This is not the case in the United States. For such payments to work there, various companies such as cellphone manufacturers, carriers, financial institutions and retailers must all play their roles. There also must be some sort of intermediary that is trusted by both the financial institutions and the carriers to activate the virtual credit cards inside the phone. One problem is that anyone using a credit card inside a cellphone is simultaneously a customer of the financial institution and of the carrier.

Samsung has released the first mobile phone with an eight-megapixel image sensor that can produce quality images on a par with most digital cameras.  Called the Samsung i8510, the new model comes with a flash and can detect when people are smiling in the picture. This may be the first product to go on sale in Britain with an eight-megapixel camera, but other manufacturers such as Sony Ericsson are developing similar products for release. The Korea Times report that the mobile Internet is the hottest issue among early adopters of technology in Korea. The three most popular handsets these days according to a local technology website are all touch-screen phones specializing in Web browsing ― Samsung’s Haptic, Pantech & Curitel’s CanU and LG’s Touch Web Phone.
