HTC has launched its newest member of myTouch series to work with T-Mobile’s 4G network, the myTouch 4G Slide. myTouch 4G Slide is breaking the trend of dedicated touchscreen devices with its 4-row QWERTY keyboard in elegantly sturdy design that runs on Android platform and HTC Sense’s gorgeous user-interface. As the name employs, it runs under T-Mobile’s widest 4G network. Aside from its slide-out keyboard, myTouch 4G has the best camera even for a smartphone as it is capable of taking panoramic shots. Streaming movies? Well, myTouch 4G makes movie streaming and even watching your favorite TV shows a whole lot easier with its Netflix app. If you are amazed by its predecessor myTouch 3G Slide, how much more with this latest innovation from HTC? Will it be worth the investment? What’s behind this powerhouse capability?

Specifications

myTouch 4G is powered by the latest and most reliable mobile platform, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread. HTC also configured myTouch 4G with 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon proeccessor with 4GB internal memory and 768MB RAM. Additionally, it has integrated 8GB microSD card and expandable memory with the use of external memory card. However, it comes with a slightly smaller screen display of 3.7-inch with 800×480 resolution; however, it is much thicker to give room for a nicely laid out sliding QWERTY keyboard. The 4.8×2.4×0.5-inch phone comes with microUSB and 3.5mm headphone ports and supports the 4G network of T-Mobile – HSPA+ technology as well as other networks such as Wi-Fi, A-GPS, GPS, EDGE, GPRS and Bluetooth 3.0. HTC myTouch 4G Slide is available in black and white colors.

Features

One remarkable feature of HTC myTouch 4G Slide is its solid slide-out keyboard which makes it easier to type on. The Accelerometer sensor, in the meantime, allows you to auto-rotate the UI. On the other hand, the proximity sensor lets you to auto switch off the display while on call. The second most remarkable feature of myTouch 4G is its camera which uses a very special lens. myTouch 4G’s 8-megapixel autofocus camera is loaded with advanced features for digital camera, zero shutter lag and dual LED flash making it a feasible substitute for your point-and-shoot digital camera. Actually, you will find two cameras on the device – one is capable of shooting 1080p videos while the second camera is used for video calling. The camera delivers bright and crisp life-like images while the video is utterly great. Moreover, it is loaded with functional Android apps including quick office editor. Finally, it does perfectly great in mobile web browsing as well as voice calling.

HTC myTouch 4G Slide is already out in the US market since July 27, 2011 for $199.99 and comes with a 2-year contract agreement with T-Mobile. Granted, myTouch 4G might be heavy but its added weight completely compensates the convenience that comes along for a smartphone. Its user interface might lack some spice yet its camera is loaded with the most advanced features that will make you leave your point-and-shoot digital camera at home. If you want to stand out with your Android phone, then myTouch 4G is more than enough.

Some might view the HTC Incredible S and its 4-inch S-LCD display as a marriage between the earlier HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD. The Incredible S does try to differentiate, with slightly different contours on its body instead of the usual flat designs found on similar candy bar form factors. Unfortunately, there’s still no sure way to avoid fingerprint smudges on its glossy screen. Physical buttons are mostly absent, with the four usual shortcuts for back, home, menu and search represented by touch sensitive buttons, lit by small LEDs beneath.

Preloaded with Google Android 2.2, the Incredible S is enhanced with features such as HTC Sense and the HTCSense.com cloud service, both of which were also showcased on the Desire HD and Desire Z. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 1GHz processor and 768MB of RAM, the incredible S isn’t lacking in performance, performing mostly on par with earlier Android devices.

The Incredible S also focuses heavily on multimedia. The proof is in its SRS WOW HD audio enhancement, which is a boon to both its audio and video playback. Of course, audio quality is still very much subjective, given that some might prefer strong bass, while others might not.

Unfortunately, the Incredible S has two distinct weaknesses, the first of which is lackluster imaging performance. On paper, it is armed with a 8-megapixel camera sensor, capable of 720p video recording and complemented by a dual-LED flash. In reality however, imaging performance for the Incredible S was merely average. While the Incredible S excels in speed and usability, compared with other devices in the same class, the Incredible S doesn’t do as well, with less than four hours as tested in our battery benchmark.

Bottom line, should you get the HTC Incredible S? If you’re a fan of the HTC Sense experience, and find yourself in need of a smartphone soon, the Incredible S is relatively future-proof with an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update due in the second quarter of 2011. The average user will find this Android smartphone adequate, considering its overall performance, as well as a price tag of S758. if you’re looking for something with more raw power though, we recommend holding out for either the Samsung Galaxy SII, or the LG Optimus 2X.

Press shots have been leaked of an upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango device created by HTC, codenamed Omega. This device will probably be announced at HTC’s September event. The Omega is pretty slick looking with its white and silver color combination and a possible aluminum build. This device may be called the HTC Radar when it is officially announced.

The technical specifications for this bad boy are unfortunately only rumours at this point: a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 SoC processor, 512MB of RAM, a front-facing camera, a 3.8″ SLCD display and a 8MP camera in the rear. The front-facing camera will likely include Skype integration.

HTC is the first among major manufacturers of Android phones to offer three-dimensional glass-free display naming it HTC EVO 3D. The newest member of HTC’s EVO series features a 4.3-inch qHD display, 5MP dual cameras and 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chat. What’s more, it is powered by the latest Android platform, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread, as well as the powerful dual-core 1.2GHz processor. And most of all, it works with the latest 4G technology – WiMAX from Sprint. Will HTC EVO 3D live up to its claim of giving new heights in mobile technology or is it just a publicity stunt?

Specifications

HTC configured EVO 3D with the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread coupled with Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz processor. It has 1GB of RAM and internal memory of 4GB with 8GB expandable memory through microSD card. The 5.0×2.3×0.48-inch phone sports a 4.3-inch with 960×540 3D qHD display, and weighs 6 ounces. Moreover, EVO 3D supports CDMA, EV-DO, 3G and 4G networks as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR. Besides, it also has ports for 3.5mm headphone and microUSB 2.0. Moreover, it is powered by Li-Ion 1730mAh battery which could last up to 7 hours. Of course, viewing and recording 3D cuts back battery life. And on top of the super fast Android and Snapdragon processor HTC EVO 3D uses HTC Sense’s UI.

Features

HTC EVO 3D is packed with lots of features. Concerning its physical appearance, EVO 3D is clad with a soft-touch finish, beautifully textured rigged pattern for a snug fit and sure grip. The 4.3-inch 3D qHD display gives clear and vibrant images. Shooting 720p videos through its camcorder gives vibrant and detailed images.

What about the 3D feature? Well then, it is not as good as you would expect for 3D yet the phone does deliver surprisingly awesome 3D pictures and videos with its two 5MP dual LED flash camera. And take note, its glass-free! Although this feature requires a lot of improvement, it still does an excellent job when taking 3D pictures, shooting home-made videos as well as playing games. On the other hand, the secondary front-facing 1.3MP camera is perfect for video chat.

Looking for entertainment? Well, with preinstalled 3D apps like YouTube and Blockbuster, you will definitely get your dose of entertainment. And since it is using 1.2GHz processor, Android platform and WiMAX technology, web browsing runs smoothly. If you are willing to pay more, you can even use it as a mobile hotspot which is capable of connecting up to 8 Wi-Fi ready devices.

HTC EVO 3D was released last June 24, 2011 tagging a $199.99 price, with a 2-year contract agreement with Sprint.
Yes, HTC EVO 3D is a breakthrough in mobile technology today especially since no other phones has ever offered glass-free 3D like EVO 3D does. For faster smartphone performance, 4G speeds, wide touchscreen display and elegant sure grip design, HTC EVO 3D makes a good buy.

HTC Desire S, the official successor to the Desire, joins a growing camp of Android 2.3-enabled smartphones that’s slathered over with the HTC’s 2.1 sense interface. How does it stand out amidst its siblings? First things first, while the other devices in the Desire lineup set out with niche features (Desire HD with its huge, built-for-entertainment 4.3-inch screen, Desire Z with its slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard), the Desire S was built to sit somewhere in between, offering balance between portability and performance.

Just like its predecessor, the Desire S is compact thanks to a 37-inch screen, has a 5-megapixel camera and a reasonably powerful processor. Nevertheless, given that there are faster Android 2.3 handsets with dual-core processors on the horizon, how does the Desire S compete, especially since it isn’t all that groundbreaking to start.

What the Desire S does have is a sturdy exterior, which we’ve already seen implemented on the Legend, Desire HD and incredible S. You also get HTC’s familiar sense interface, which should appeal to existing HTC customers looking to upgrade from older Android-powered devices, seeing as it does come with the full suite of HTCSense.com services that include both HTC Hub and HTC Likes apps.

The 3.7-inch S-LCD screen makes mobile entertainment a decent experience, further augmented by built-in SRS enhancements. The Desire S is powered by a 1GHz processor and comes with 768MB of RAM, both of which work in tandem to provide users with reasonably speedy browsing and multitasking with minimal sluggishness. In terms of actual performance, the only notable drawback would be its lackluster digital camera, which needs lots of light to produce digital snapshots that are anywhere near usable. Last but not least, battery performance wasn’t the best out of all the Android-powered devices we’ve tested so far, though it still manages to outperform its closest competitors.

With these factors in mind, there’s still not much reason to upgrade to the Desire S if you have the original, or if you have an Android device launched last year, given that most devices launched then should be receiving the Android 2.3 update. On the other hand, if you’re hopping on the Android bandwagon for the first time, the Desire S is a good device as any to consider, given its decent feature set, having Android 2.3 installed, as well as the rather affordable price tag of $688 minus contract.

The Android world has been stuck by dual core processors. After the LG Optimus 2x and Samsung Galaxy SII, now HTC has come up with a similar device. On paper, the spec sheet of the HTC Sensation looks very similar to the Samsung GS2′s. A 4.3-inch capacitive display, Android v2.3, dual core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 8MP camera, etc. Loaded with the HTC Sense 3, the home screen interface is re¬freshing. We had to drag the ring upwards to unlock the screen and could also customize four shortcuts that can be launched from the lock screen by dragging it to the ring at the bottom. Even the weather app powered by Accuweather had better graphics and close-to-accurate predictions.

Once again the main menu was di¬vided in to all apps, Frequent and Downloads. A task manager has been added to the notifications bar that takes one to the running apps consuming ROM and gives an option to kill them. At any given point of time, of the 558 MB total ROM memory, with none of the apps running, the free memory was never above 180 MB.
In the main application setting, it showed 137 MB RAM used with close to 313 MB free. While different players use chipsets from different manufacturer, HTC opted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor, which the company claims is optimized for more efficient work in comparison to other processors. However, the overall performance of the Sensation was a bit slow. Even the benchmark score on the Quadrant Benchmark was just 2030 points, in comparison to the 300CN- score of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

But the Sensation comes with a few impressive features as well. The web browsing was smooth and the browser always enquires whether videos should be played in YouTube. The video playback clar¬ity was good but wasn’t loud enough. The phone was instant in build¬ing satellite connection using Google Maps. Email, Facebook and Twitter were a few handy, on-the-move apps that came preinstalled on the phone. Full HD Video capture was good with above average imaging from the 8MP camera during daylight. But images cap¬tured at night using flash had a yellow-golden effect.

Facing tough competition from the Samsung GS2, it had its own set of letdowns. The much-talked about death grip issue was pre¬sent in the device. When the top back was covered by the hand, the phone completely loses the WiFi singal. Even the battery was just average as it failed to last a day with email, social networking, and regular calling and web browsing.

Verdict: Not the best for the price it comes at. Consider Galaxy S2 instead.
